The latest ASIST course run by MATES in Construction in Brisbane has meant that CS Energy now has all of its sites accredited as MATES in Construction sites.

A total of 13 people are now trained in Suicide First Aid and can use their newly learned skills to help recognise when their mate is doing tough and intervene on a person’s suicidal thoughts.

CS Energy had staff from their four sites, Wivenhoe Pocket, Kogan Creek, Callide and Brisbane Head Office attend the latest ASIST workshop.

Other organisations such as lendlease, BUSSQ, Plumbers Union, CFMEU, Powerlink also had staff at this ASIST course.

You don’t have to hold a degree or have any experience in psychology or mental health to take part. All you need is to want to learn about ways to prevent suicide.

ASIST or Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a two day workshop which will provide you with the skills and confidence to understand why a person may be considering suicide, how to approach people and what to do next.

If you are interested in attending a workshop contact your local MATES in Construction office.
