In late November, sixteen workers of varying backgrounds participated in the two day ASIST course in South Australia. There were workers from construction, mining and disability services – a diverse group to say the least!

ASIST is the third tier of the MATES in Construction program, across Australia there are 937 ASIST trained workers with 107 in South Australia.

One of the fundamental beliefs of the workshop is to participate commented MATES in Construction Field Officer, Matt Cole.

By participating an environment is created where knowledge is shared, people are valued and individuals develop their own understanding of suicide.

“Everyone at this workshop certainly embraced the opportunity and made my role as a facilitator a pleasure,” Matt said.
