MATES in Construction WA is pleased to announce The MATES Lunch will be held on Thursday May 5th at the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom.

The MATES Lunch will be an entertaining afternoon again this year. Tim Gossage will be back to MC the event, and this year he will be taking the gavel to auction items which are sure to tempt. While we will all be there to enjoy a lovely meal and perhaps purchase an item or two, there is also the serious underlying topic of promoting positive mental health for everyone in the construction industry.

To actively discuss the subject we have guest speakers who will assist the audience to understand how poor mental health is an important issue that affects people of all walks of life. An on-stage interview will be conducted with prominent media husband and wife Glenn Mitchell and Karen Tighe. They will talk about how Glenn’s mental illness and suicide attempt impacted his life, and also their family. While this subject matter is confronting, it will assist the audience to appreciate the consequence mental illness can have on the person, and the ripple effect on loved ones and the people around them.

The afternoon is an occasion to network, understand the impact of mental illness, and also be entertained. There will be opportunities to outbid each other in a friendly and lively manner with live and silent auctions. Our half-time presenter will give you the opportunity to challenge yourself in a completely different way later in the year while helping MATES and getting fit. Presently we are also in negotiations with a well-known Australian sportsman who will speak about how he manages his mental illness and still excels in his sporting career.
