The MATES in Construction Kokoda trek has now been officially launched!
On Wednesday 18 May, the Building Employees Redundancy Trust (BERT) hosted a breakfast to launch the 2016 MATES in Kokoda Trek and to encourage anyone interested in taking on the trek to sign up.
There was a great turnout with over 250 people attending to support MATES in Construction and hear about the Kokoda Trek.
The special guest was former SAS Patrol Commander, Mick Donaldson. Mick’s presentation had the whole room mesmerised when sharing his experiences of being an SAS Soldier in many locations including East Timor.
There are a few organisations we need to thank for making donations at the breakfast, particularly:
- Steel Blue boots – donating boots for all trekkers
- Geiger Group – $500 donation
- Superform – $500 donation
- Funds raised from Heads and Tails ticket sales – $1,500
- Innovative Sign Solutions – Fabulous print from the Kokoda Trek
From the breakfast, we now have a total of 35 trekkers taking on Kokoda. We are getting closer every day to our target of 50 trekkers this year.
If Kokoda is on your bucket list, now is the time to sign up and start trekking. Check out our Kokoda page for more information.
A very special thank you to Amanda Arrowsmith and the team from BERT for organising such an excellent event.
