The MATES Lunch recently held in Perth was again a great success. The lunch provided the 250 attendees with the opportunity to network, talk about suicide and mental health, and to recognise how important it is to reach out to help your MATE.
As everyone entered the ballroom at the Hyatt Regency they were welcomed with the sight of a brand new Ferrari. Some may say, what does a Ferrari have to do with MATES in Construction? The answer was obvious when motor racing champion John Bowe gave the keynote speech. John gave a very personal account of his experiences in his racing career and to the impact of mental illness upon his life.
Amongst the group of significant speakers was Mr Tim Marney, Western Australian Mental Health Commissioner who commenced proceedings.
We were also very pleased to welcome James Bollen to The MATES Lunch to talk about his experience with doing it tough as a young man in the construction industry. We thank James for sharing his truly touching story, it resonated with everyone present at the event.
The lunch concluded with the MC of the day Tim Gossage interviewing sports broadcasting presenters Glenn Mitchell and Karen Tighe. Glenn and Karen shared their stories and were very candid of their experiences.
Thank you to our guest speakers – Tim Marney, John Bowe, James Bollen, Glenn Mitchell and Karen Tighe. Thanks also to the MC – Tim Gossage.
We must thank our principal sponsor Cbus, without your support the lunch would not have been as successful.
Finally, thank you to everyone who came and shared the day with us.
